The Charms of Power Verse 1 See me haunt your rulers soul Wherein he thinks by my control From where I chart the course which nations sail where dreams of empire may succeed or fail For
the righteousness by
which kings may sound their call must
always fall beneath the charms of power Verse 2 From Ceasers heart to Pharaohs dreams Ten thousand years of dark regimes I took the worst of you and raised them high I offered powers they could not deny And their souls were damned by the powers they’d lay claim to rising flame fed by the charms of power Verse 3 Till now I slur the prophets cries that none may know their rulers guise That all may see the beast and gather near That all may hear his words and live in fear For the ruling beast shapes the fears on which he’ll prey to hold his stay within the halls of power Verse 4 And so I dulled the peoples mind until they followed as the blind They placed their souls into his dark command and sent their sons to die on foreign sand Lest his power fade let their loyalty be shown beneath his throne beneath the halls of power Verse 5 Till one arose to lead them on through bloody night until the dawn when by the torches light they stormed the wall and raised him high to hear his mighty call But when the people slept their new ruler came to me on bended knee to beg the charms of power |
