The 2000 Reunion
I guess I should be accustomed to it by now, but the reunion took place on a hot and muggy Tennessee summer day. Still, it wasn't quite as hot as the previous year.
But then, of course, we were inside, in the new section of the Union Hall. An expansive, beautiful dining hall. We got the use of this area because the gymnasium floor in the other section was being refurbished. So we started with a bit of luck. Another bit of luck was that another user of the area (who would not need it until 5:00 pm) split the expense. And thus a savings of $250 of expense.
There were, again, many familiar and many new faces. There were family pictures and documents. And there was a lot of good food to go with the deliceous deep fried catfish.
New officers were elected afterward and they are:
President James Derryberry of Kinta, OK
Vice-President Blair Derryberry of Columbia, TN
Treasurer Guy Z. Derryberry of Columbia, TN
Secretary Andy Derryberry of Nashville, TN
These officers were elected for a period of two years.
As had been decided the prior year, the 2001 reunion will be held in Oklahoma. Details of place and time would be determined later, although the intent is for the date to be the fourth Saturday of July, 2001.
A suggestion was made that some of the many door prizes be auctioned to generate additional funds for the Association. This was an complete success as enthusiastic bidding took place for all the items.
There were also "Derryberry Reunion 2000" T-Shirts that sold for $10 with $2 returning to the Association. The entire stock of T-Shirts was sold in short order.
There was considerable discussion about the Adam house. The current owner has said that she wants to demolish the house. She has also said she wants to sell the entire property, which includes a house that was recently built. Obviously, the Adam house is in some peril. It is possible that a fund will be established to attempt to purchase and restore the house, but there is nothing in place at this time.
After much fun, food and fellowship, the reunion was adjourned until 2001 in Oklahoma.
