when the rich rays of morning lessen . A Poem by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

“It belongs to the imperfection of everything human that
man can only attain his desire by passing through its opposite”… Soren Kierkegaard

Today an unhappy spirit questioned-
Despite what beneficial
Environs exist
Along a souls river,
Where flora could flourish
In nutrient rich soil- why some
Gardens exsiccate and become more
Blanched than bone dust…
~
With little
Comprehension
Vanity stared into the
Mirrored gray-blue water and demanded,
“Why is it so many never take root? Tell me, please,
Would you, where they go; dreams that perish?”
~
But there was
Little discernible today,
In any way,
No kindly wisdom,
No revelation or sound, save a
Sudden splash as a solitary seagull alighted
(a smooth reflected surface) and began
Pecking flesh from a lifeless trout

in an odd state of melancholic un-belonging. A poem by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

IN A ODD STATE OF MELANCHOLIC UNBELONGING

So it was for them,
and for countless others,
as they grew and struggled
in a soulless-system, seeking-out
their identities, their paths, their purpose,
their successes, as captivating circumstance cajoled
(each) with a fool’s panacea. People much like cold calderas,
once bold and forceful, now, sadly subject to
the chronicles of yawning indifference.
~
A cop’s wife beat
down {oppressed}
seeks retribution in her world
of make-believe.
A sister’s husband beats her; it
rewires her heart and mind; cursed,
he dies soused in a head-on,
leaving her and an
(only) son alone
unloved.
Years go by…
EVER deprived of model,
the son loses his bearings, angry,
arrogant, aggravated, he curls inward,
embraces his wounds, weed, alcohol, pills,
ends up wayward, darkened, lessened, a miscreant
seeking refuge in a Wiccan’s ramshackle garage
where he drinks and smokes himself numb,
and lines the framing with hundreds
of empty bottles he pretends are medals
~
These accounts
proliferate like weeds,
in every city and township
the wounded (financially solvent
or in straitened circumstances) exist in
an odd state of melancholic un-belonging,
souls seeking freedom, wings, peace,
meaning, as opposing forces
relentlessly push back
with impudent vigor
ugly converting
influences
staunch
unbending
unwavering
deceptive assuredness
vomiting multiple sides of
similar theories simultaneously
caught betwixt shadows of indifference
as side by side miseries annihilate
meaningful purpose
~
And they persist,
like wildflowers and weeds, a
pandemic of fraught souls struggling,
(employed or destitute)
surviving alone,
unloved in a soulless system,
scorned, segregated, separated,
alone dreamers dreaming dreams of
beautiful things that remain [for them] unrealized …

Black Dog. Poem. Richard Lloyd Cederberg

BLACK_DOG

This black dog follows me-
Relentlessly
Passing as a shadow
Amongst shadows

For when I am
Particularly vulnerable,
Incisors snap rhythmically;
Primal blood-hunger seeking
Satisfaction in its quest to
Find the easiest part of
Me to tear into

“Its cunning
Is wolf cunning,”
(London wrote) and
There is nothing I can do
To appease the brooding

As it lies in wait
For strength to falter,
Or for a cessation of defenses,
Or for weary eyes (fixed on surviving)
To lose their joyful glimmering

This black dog follows me-
Relentlessly
Passing as a shadow
Amongst shadows,
Watching doggedly
For an open window,
Or some doorway,
Unlatched,
To allow it ease of entry

Far Deeper than a Soul Starves.Richard Lloyd Cederberg.Haiku/Tanka Poem

Far deeper than a soul starves

***

Being positioned

Between vitality and

The grays of shadows;

This freely expressed life of

Extraordinary colors

*

Creates full rainbows

With words and desert echoes;

Revealing her path

*

As an art scholar,

Medieval literature;

One LIVING sculpture

Lamenting loves complexness;

A dragonfly ASCENDING,

 *

Rediscovering

The innocence of dreaming,

Not fully knowing

*

 Her life will evince

The fervent hopefulness’s

 Of one seeking TRUTH

 *

DRAGONFLY rises,

In humbleness of spirit,

(Voyaging beyond)

 Life’s many unrequited

Gifts given from two scarred hands

 *

 Understanding now

 Dying as a conversion;

 Circling obstacles

 Akin to daily regrets;

 A cathartic chrysalis

 *

 Waiting to be bound

 To ONE who emancipates

 The LIFE she foresees;

 Translucent of an echo;

Far deeper than a soul starves,

 *

 Chrystus beckons

As an artificial church decays

Of Reddened Apples.Poem. Richard Lloyd Cederberg

Protecting the wellness, accuracy, and sanctity of creative individualism
____________________________________________

Being blessed
Abreast this advantage,
Perched upon a firm palisade
Within a sprawl of Malus laden,
Where, contemplating all
Comings and goings,
To some length,
Seemed a
Brawl
(Of sorts)
Of the movement
Of others in the often
Mundane blur of surviving

Dour dominion
Suffered acute eyes in
Wonderment, streets moiling
With rapacious squawking hawkers,
And all the grousing animations of escapade
Vendors plying the needy with homemade
Food, tomfoolery, and the bric-a-brac
Of some faraway place,
And being
Aware that
Very morning of a
Shadowy tramp steamer
Offloading some unavowed booty
Into the hands of indurate panhandlers,
Whose ultimate survival rested,
At all costs,
In the next sale or
Satisfactory scheme

(To ensnare
Those fleeceable
With the unnecessary)

He felt
Relieved for
The scant distance
Between THERE and THIS
Pleasant vantage so effectively
Set apart in rolling woodland hills,
A place where within his nostrils
Redolence brooded subtly
Of reddened apples,
The sweet
Tart
Crisp
Whitish
Flesh
Beckoning him
Without peddler’s schemes or
An under-handed drama of strategies;
Smiling broadly he plucked one from where it dangled,
And, after consuming it, filled his haversack for
The continuing journey
