Dreams of falling
from perilous heights
snap us awake
just before impact.
Dreams of pursuit
by malevolent hordes,
snap us awake
just before capture.
Unconscious activity
denies nature’s mandate
for refreshing rest,
designed to prepare us
for demanding tomorrows.
